Bone Marrow Transplant Performance Results

Average length of hospital stay

Patients stay at the hospital for an average of 24 days.

The DHMC 2002-2009 number includes both very ill patients who have long stays, as well as patients with very short hospitalizations.

We compare our length of stay to an estimate that accounts for how sick our patients are. To get this estimate, we use the University HealthSystem Consortium clinical database.

The estimate is shown as the "average" number in the graph below.

This measure only includes patients who have had autologous inpatient transplants. It does not include patients who have any portion of their bone marrow transplant on an outpatient basis.

  • A low score is better than a high score.
  • The DHMC 2002-2009 score is for the period January 2002 to December 2009.
  • N/A means that there is no available comparison.
  • The average score is an estimated or "expected" value for DHMC after taking into account the severity of illness of the DHMC BMT patients, and is based in part on the Clinical Data Products Data Base maintained by the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) for the period October 2005 to December 2009.
