Overuse injuries: A Recap
During his 18+ years of practice, Dr. Hecht has found that most runners don't require surgery for overuse injuries. What you do need to do is to:
- Modify your activities; in other words, change your exercise habits while recovering.
- Start slowly when you do return to your normal activities.
- Get better shoes or inserts if appropriate; keep in mind that there are three types of feet: a flat foot, a neutral foot, and a foot with a high arch. There are shoes that are made for each type of foot. Your shoe should fit with enough space in the toe – both in length and height of the area around your toes.
