All transport requests are received and then coordinated from bed to bed or scene to the closest trauma center, through our computer aided air medical software program. The program allows for information capture and in addition, dispatches the pilot and medical crews giving a precise location, heading, distance, time enroute and coordinates for the landing zone.

The Communications Specialist is trained and can assist the Pilot on duty with weather interpretation by utilizing satellite based WSI Vector weather computer with up to date data information, and for scene calls can develop coordinates by either our Delorme Map Expert or GPS electronic charting system.

Besides coordinating patient transports, DHART Comm is responsible for continuous flight following of the helicopter and the execution of the Post Accident/Incident Plan emergency procedures if the needed.

Additional duties for the Communications Specialists for DHMC is coordinating and dispatching for the DHART Ground Units and the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) Neonatal ground transport unit. Mutual Aid Flight Following is also provided for other flight programs in the region.
