If you are an athlete, a parent of an athlete, a coach, school nurse, or an athletic trainer, you won't want to miss one of our free, one-hour educational workshops co-sponsored by the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Sports Medicine Team and the Upper Valley Sports Education Foundation. Sessions will be an interactive discussion format where you can feel free to ask your questions to the panel of experts in an intimate setting. Meanwhile, athletes can have baseline and balance testing completed in a different room.
Baseline testing is important for athletes to have in their medical record in the event they suffer a sports concussion in the future. The baseline shows their cognitive and balance scores in "normal" condition, which will make it easier for a doctor to diagnose a future concussion and provide appropriate guidelines for treatment. The results of these scores will be given to adult athletes or parents of young athletes to keep in their child's health file. Any athlete between the ages of 11 and 65 is welcome to have a baseline and balance test for the cost of $15 per person. The industry-standard ImPACT(R) testing software will be used for the baseline testing, and athletes will be scored for balance by a physical therapist certified in balance testing.
