About Us
Pastoral services are also provided by Volunteer Eucharistic Ministers, by Volunteer Assistant Chaplains, and by students in DHMC's programs of Clinical Pastoral Education.
Community clergy and religious leaders are welcome and encouraged to visit people affiliated with their congregations. Directories that indicate religious preferences are available for clergy in the Chaplain's Office and at Information Desks at the Main and North Entrances. Clergy may apply for a hospital-issued ID at the Chaplain's Office, though this is not required.
Patient privacy
Listing in the Clergy Directory is to assist the patients' own clergy in providing desired pastoral care. DHMC does not allow community clergy to visit patients who are not part of their respective congregations except as invited by the patient. Patients may be listed in the Clergy Directory so that the representatives of their own faith group may be informed of their presence and call on them. Patients who choose not to be listed in the Clergy Directory must inform their pastors of their location in the hospital if they wish to be visited.
Hospital staff may refer patients by telephone or pager, or by written request. Patients, families, or local clergy may request a chaplain's visit by direct contact with the Chaplaincy office or through DHMC staff. Chaplains may also visit without referral as an expression of DHMC's hospitality and concern. Patients' refusal of Chaplaincy visits is always respected.
